Chapter 25

There he was, grinning at me again, as if he does it all the time, and here I am naked, standing in front of him with just some tropical flowers to cover me up.

Chloe’s body thrummed. She’d imagined what it would be like to be with Scott, but he had surpassed all of her expectations. And now, here they were, in the middle of the night, eating cupcakes as if it was a perfectly normal and every day occurrence for them. Would he regret all of this in the morning?

The cupcakes were delicious. Instead of just eating half of one each, they ended up just trying bites of all of them, deciding that the salted caramel was hands down the best one. Chloe let out a big yawn, trying ineffectively to cover it with her hand.

“Maybe we should get some sleep. Your security system installation is tomorrow, you don’t want to fall asleep while they are explaining how to make it work.”

Chloe nodded. Scott got up and locked the patio door, and then, wrapping an arm around Chloe, he walked her back to her bedroom. They came together again, but at a much less feverish pace. Chloe could still taste the salted caramel on Scott’s lips when he kissed her. They floated off to sleep, entwined in each other’s arms.

Chloe felt peaceful and safe. Who needed a security system when she had Scott in her bed?

The morning arrived far too early, in Chloe’s opinion. They had cupcakes for breakfast and finished cleaning up the kitchen from the night before.

“So… I just got a text from the security company. Their installer should be here within the hour… I guess that means your security detail is over?” Chloe looked down at her toes. She didn’t want Scott to go, but didn’t know where they stood or how to go forward from there.

“Do you want me to go?” Scott asked.

“I don’t know what the right answer is to that…” Chloe looked up at Scott, hunting for an answer in his eyes.

“How about… I have to go house hunting with Sam today, but I’ll come back for dinner tonight, and you can show me your fancy new security system?” Scott suggested.

The air whooshed out of Chloe. He wanted to see her again. “I think that’ll work great. Having a cop around when the security guys are working might make them nervous.” She said with a wink.

Scott dipped his head for a quick kiss, and Chloe eagerly rose on her toes to meet him halfway. “Will you spend the night again?”

“Only if you want me to.” Scott kissed her again. Chloe could hardly contain her giddiness.

She waved goodbye to him from her front door as he backed out of her driveway. Quickly giving her head a shake, she set about tidying up.

While the security team did their thing, Chloe sat with her computer on her back porch, planning options for photoshoot backgrounds, new packages she could offer, as well as possible recipes for dinner tonight.
